Guys I am really scared about the healthcare Supreme Court case. Healthcare is one of my favorite aspects of public policy [oh man am I boring you yet] and I don’t want to see it ripped to shreds. Individual mandate = cheaper healthcare as you don’t have to pay for uninsured emergency room visits AND more people will practice preventive care which saves costs in the long run. I would pull one of my books about healthcare and spout numbers but this post isn’t about that.
This post is about how Justice Kennedy says he is “skeptical” and I’m reading the transcript from today right now and I’m really scared it’s gonna be deemed unconstitutional. And don’t kid yourself, without the cost-saving from the individual mandate the rest of the law will fall apart.
Aside from being a wonk, I also consider myself an armchair strategist so can I just comment on how the Obama campaign was one of the best run, brilliant campaigns in modern election history yet those same guys couldn’t frame this healthcare debate properly at all? It’s approval rating are low because people are stupid and don’t know facts they just know what they’re being told, and you hear nothing but bad about it. The Obama people just reclaimed “obamacare” yesterday, they should’ve been doing that from the beginning.
This post turned out longer than it should have. I’m just very angry and worried this thing is going to be struck down.
DOES NO ONE REALISE HOW MONUMENTAL AND IMPORTANT THIS LEGISLATION IS?
