In honor of Oscar night, here are some James Dean facts :)
- James Dean got Best Actor Oscar nominations for his performances in 2/3 of his films, “East of Eden” and “Giant” (even though his role of Jett Rink was technically a supporting role). He couldn’t be nominated for “Rebel Without a Cause” because it was released the same year as “East of Eden”, and at that time an actor could only receive one nomination per category.
- He was the first actor to be nominated for an Academy Award posthumously, and remains the only actor to have been nominated twice posthumously.
- James Dean is also one of only six actors to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his first screen appearance. (The other five actors are Orson Welles, Lawrence Tibbett, Alan Arkin, Paul Muni and Montgomery Clift)
